CLSEN Fabrics – Natural, Light, & Timeless

Silk breathes. It drapes. It moves with you.

At CLSEN, we choose silk not only for its lustre and fluidity—but for what it represents. Derived from the cocoons of silkworms, silk is a natural protein fibre that is remarkably strong, yet impossibly soft. It regulates temperature, absorbs moisture without feeling damp, and has a natural sheen that deepens with wear. Each garment carries a subtle iridescence that responds to light—and to you.

To keep your silk at its best, here’s how to care for it:

Washing

  • Hand wash in cool water (max 30°C) with a gentle, pH‑neutral silk–specific detergent

  • Machine wash only on a delicate/hand‑wash cycle if your machine permits—use a mesh laundry bag

  • Never use bleach, optical brighteners, or enzyme‑based detergents—they can weaken or discolour the fibres

  • Wash separately or with similar light fabrics; avoid mixing with coarse items like denim or zippers

  • Skip fabric softener—it coats the fibres and diminishes silk’s natural drape and breathability

Drying

  • Gently press out excess water—never wring or twist

  • Lay flat on a clean, absorbent towel in the shade, away from direct heat or sunlight

  • Reshape the garment while damp; silk is prone to watermarks if left crumpled

  • Never hang silk when wet—the weight of water can stretch and distort the shape

Storage

  • Ensure silk is completely dry before storing to prevent mildew or yellowing

  • Store in a cool, dark, dry place—preferably folded in a breathable cotton pouch or wrapped in acid‑free tissue paper

  • If hanging, use padded or silk‑covered hangers to avoid shoulder marks; leave space between garments to prevent friction

  • Keep away from perfumes, cosmetics, and cedar balls—direct contact can cause stains or fibre damage

Ironing

  • Iron inside‑out while the fabric is still slightly damp, using a low‑heat setting (silk or synthetic)

  • For best results, place a pressing cloth between the iron and the silk to prevent shine or scorch marks

  • Alternatively, use a steamer held at a distance—steam relaxes wrinkles without pressure

  • Never spray water directly onto silk; it can leave water spots—mist the pressing cloth instead

Important

  • Do not tumble dry—high heat causes shrinkage, loss of sheen, and permanent fibre damage

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which can fade or weaken the fabric

  • Always check the care label inside your CLSEN garment for specific fibre weight and finish instructions
